The Tatars in Turkmenistan
This is the translation of Abdulgamid’s post from the Russian part of the blog.
The theme of relations of Turkmen with internet has been touched in his several posts, where he reviewed the subject from different points of view: sports (motor racing), Facebook social net, Turkmen hackers and public opinion online poll. This time he draws your attention to quite a unique web-site dedicated to the Tatar national community in Turkmenistan.
He states that in general the information published on this web-site is rather official and politically correct.
Here’s a letter from Elvira addressed to the mentioned web-site: “Lately I had honor to take part in presentation of Rukhnama (in Tatar) held this year in Ashgabat on January, 14.” This atmosphere in this event was so cheerful and light! Our elders were so happy to see the musical performance, as for the past years we did not have a chance to see the performers from Tatarstan or Bashkortostan…”
However, some interesting articles and notes can be found there as well:
Highland Tatars. Climbing Airi-Baba. Rinat Gizatullin, a member of Agama Mountaineering Club, effected ascent of the highest point in Turkmenistan – Airi-Baba Mountain (3153 m) - the top of Koitendag range.
How many Tatars live in Turkmenistan?
“First interview. Mullah from Ashgabat”
Article by R. Ismailov “Origin of Turkmen Theater”, where he shares his thoughts of the national dramatic art origin.
“Turkmen tales about Tatars and more”
It’s very interesting to realize that the web-site of this kind exists. There are no doubts it is supported by Tatarstan government. Especially when the co-operation between Tatarstan and Turkmenistan became more active lately, since Turkmenistan purchases KamAz machinery for tens of millions US dollars.
Even though this internet project is politically and economically motivated, its idea is positive and existence is eligible, since so far it is the only one dedicated to a national community in Turkmenistan .
